Welcome to Lobe! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Lobe platform, website, and services (collectively, the "Service"). Please read these Terms carefully before using Lobe.
Plain English Summary: By using Lobe, you agree to these terms. Use Lobe responsibly for legitimate educational purposes, respect academic integrity policies, and understand that AI outputs should be verified. We're here to help you learn, not do your work for you.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.
If you are using Lobe on behalf of an organization (such as a student organization or educational institution), you represent that you have the authority to bind that organization to these Terms.
2. Description of Service
Lobe is an AI-powered educational platform that provides:
- Lecture recording and transcription services
- Integration with Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)
- AI-assisted note-taking and summarization
- Automated generation of study materials (flashcards, practice questions, summaries)
- Spaced repetition review system
- AI chat assistant for course-related questions
The Service is designed to supplement, not replace, traditional educational resources and active learning practices.
3. User Accounts
Account Creation
To use most features of Lobe, you must create an account. When creating an account, you agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Maintain and promptly update your account information
- Keep your password secure and confidential
- Accept responsibility for all activities under your account
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use
Account Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Lobe. If you are between 13 and 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian. The Service is primarily designed for college and university students.
One Account Per User
Each user may maintain only one account. Sharing account credentials with others is prohibited and may result in account termination.
4. Acceptable Use
You agree to use Lobe only for lawful purposes. You may NOT:
- Use the Service to violate any law, regulation, or third-party rights
- Upload malicious content, viruses, or harmful code
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other users' accounts
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Service without permission
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code
- Use the Service to harass, abuse, or harm others
- Upload content that infringes intellectual property rights
- Impersonate any person or entity
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose without authorization
We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action against anyone who violates these provisions, including removing content, suspending or terminating accounts, and reporting to law enforcement.
5. Educational Use & Academic Integrity
Important: Lobe is a study aid. Using AI-generated content in ways that violate your institution's academic integrity policies may have serious consequences.
Intended Use
Lobe is designed to help you:
- Capture and review lecture content
- Study more effectively using spaced repetition
- Understand complex concepts through AI explanations
- Organize your course materials
- Prepare for exams with generated practice questions
Your Responsibility
You are solely responsible for:
- Understanding and complying with your institution's academic integrity policies
- Determining whether using AI-generated content is permitted for specific assignments
- Properly citing or disclosing AI assistance when required
- Verifying the accuracy of AI-generated study materials
- Ensuring your use of Lobe does not constitute cheating or plagiarism
Recording Consent
When recording lectures, you are responsible for obtaining any required consent from instructors or institutions. Some jurisdictions and institutions have specific rules about recording without consent. Lobe is not responsible for your compliance with these requirements.
6. Your Content
Ownership
You retain ownership of the content you upload to Lobe, including lecture recordings, notes, and other materials ("Your Content"). By uploading content, you grant Lobe a limited license to process, store, and display Your Content as necessary to provide the Service.
License Grant
You grant Lobe a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, copy, process, and display Your Content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. This license ends when you delete Your Content or close your account.
Content Restrictions
You agree not to upload content that:
- You do not have the right to share
- Infringes any copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property right
- Contains personal information of others without their consent
- Is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, or defamatory
- Contains malware, viruses, or harmful code
Content Removal
We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms. You can delete Your Content at any time through your account settings.
7. Intellectual Property
Lobe's Rights
The Service, including its design, features, code, and documentation, is owned by Lobe and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works without our express permission.
AI-Generated Content
Study materials, summaries, and other content generated by Lobe's AI features are created for your personal educational use. You may use this content for studying and learning. However:
- AI outputs are derived from Your Content and general AI capabilities
- We make no claim of ownership over AI-generated study materials based on Your Content
- You may not resell or commercially distribute AI-generated content
Feedback
If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about the Service, you grant us the right to use them without restriction or compensation.
8. Third-Party Services
Canvas LMS Integration
Lobe integrates with Canvas LMS through official APIs. Your use of this integration is subject to:
- Your institution's Canvas terms of service
- Your institution's acceptable use policies
- Canvas's privacy and data practices
Lobe is not affiliated with Instructure (the maker of Canvas). Issues with Canvas itself should be directed to your institution or Instructure.
Other Third-Party Services
The Service may contain links to or integrations with third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for the content, policies, or practices of third parties. Your interactions with third parties are solely between you and them.
9. AI Services & Limitations
Nature of AI Output
Lobe uses artificial intelligence to generate transcriptions, summaries, study materials, and chat responses. You acknowledge that:
- AI outputs may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions
- AI-generated content should not be considered authoritative
- You should verify important information with original sources
- AI capabilities may change or be updated over time
No Guarantee of Accuracy
We strive to provide helpful and accurate AI features, but we cannot guarantee the correctness of AI outputs. Lobe is not responsible for academic outcomes based on AI-generated content.
AI Usage Limits
Depending on your subscription plan, there may be limits on AI features such as transcription minutes, chat messages, or generated study materials. We reserve the right to implement fair usage policies.
10. Payment & Subscriptions
Free and Paid Plans
Lobe may offer both free and paid subscription plans. Features and limits vary by plan. Details are available on our pricing page.
Billing
If you subscribe to a paid plan:
- You authorize us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis
- Subscription fees are charged at the beginning of each billing period
- Prices may change with reasonable notice
- You are responsible for all applicable taxes
Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. We do not provide refunds for partial periods.
Beta Access
During our beta period, certain features may be provided free or at reduced cost. Beta features may be modified, limited, or discontinued at any time.
11. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to:
- Merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose
- Non-infringement of third-party rights
- Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of content
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation
- Security of data transmission
We do not warrant that the Service will meet your requirements, achieve any intended results, or help you achieve specific academic outcomes.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LOBE AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- Loss of profits, data, use, or goodwill
- Academic consequences resulting from use of the Service
- Actions taken based on AI-generated content
- Unauthorized access to or alteration of your data
- Any third-party conduct or content
Our total liability for any claims arising from your use of the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to Lobe in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or $100 if you have not paid anything.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Lobe and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including attorneys' fees) arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Your Content uploaded to the Service
- Academic integrity violations related to your use of Lobe
14. Termination
Termination by You
You may close your account at any time by contacting us or using the account deletion feature in settings. Upon termination, your right to use the Service immediately ceases.
Termination by Lobe
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time if:
- You violate these Terms
- Your use poses a security risk
- We are required to do so by law
- We discontinue the Service
Effect of Termination
Upon termination, we will delete your account data in accordance with our Privacy Policy. Some provisions of these Terms survive termination, including Limitation of Liability, Indemnification, and Dispute Resolution.
15. Dispute Resolution
Informal Resolution
Before filing any formal dispute, you agree to contact us at hello@lobelearning.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Arbitration
Any disputes not resolved informally shall be resolved through binding arbitration in Boulder County, Colorado, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual property matters.
Class Action Waiver
You agree to resolve disputes individually and waive the right to participate in class actions or class arbitrations.
16. Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. When we make material changes:
- We will update the "Last updated" date
- We will notify you via email or in-app notification
- Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance
If you do not agree to modified Terms, you must stop using the Service and close your account.

Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Lobe regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms will not be considered a waiver of those rights.
